Today I'm bringing you some football vocabulary in English — but not the basic stuff that everybody already knows. We're going deeper into the language of the game with expressions that commentators, players, and fans actually use.

Take a Goal Kick
Meaning: Bater o tiro de meta.
Example: The goalkeeper took a goal kick and started a quick attack.
Translation: O goleiro bateu o tiro de meta e iniciou um contra-ataque rápido.
Take a Corner
Meaning: Bater o escanteio.
Example: Lucas will take the corner from the left side.
Translation: Lucas vai bater o escanteio pelo lado esquerdo.
Take a Free Kick
Meaning: Cobrar uma falta.
Example: He took the free kick perfectly and the ball went into the top corner.
Translation: Ele cobrou a falta perfeitamente e a bola foi para o ângulo.
Take a Penalty
Meaning: Cobrar um pênalti.
Example: The captain took the penalty under enormous pressure.
Translation: O capitão bateu o pênalti sob enorme pressão.
Take a Throw-in
Meaning: Cobrar um lateral.
Example: The defender quickly took the throw-in to keep the attack moving.
Translation: O defensor cobrou o lateral rapidamente para manter o ataque em movimento.
Take an Indirect Free Kick
Meaning: Cobrar um tiro livre indireto.
Example: The referee awarded an indirect free kick and the midfielder took it immediately.
Translation: O árbitro marcou um tiro livre indireto e o meio-campista o cobrou imediatamente.
Take a Direct Free Kick
Meaning: Cobrar um tiro livre direto.
Example: Ronaldo took the direct free kick from 25 metres out.
Translation: Ronaldo cobrou o tiro livre direto de uma distância de 25 metros.
Cross the Ball
Meaning: Cruzar a bola.
Example: The winger crossed the ball into the penalty area.
Translation: O ponta cruzou a bola para a área.
Send in a Cross
Meaning: Fazer um cruzamento.
Example: He sent in a cross that found the striker's head.
Translation: Ele fez um cruzamento que encontrou a cabeça do atacante.
Shoot at Goal
Meaning: Chutar ao gol.
Example: The forward shot at goal from outside the box.
Translation: O atacante chutou ao gol de fora da área.

Example: The winger loves taking on defenders.

Rainbow Flick
Meaning: Carretilha.

Outside the box = fora da área
Take a Shot
Meaning: Dar um chute ao gol.
Example: She took a shot from distance.
