Cleft sentences

Upper-intermediate level
(B2 - CEFR)

By Sergio Viula

Cleft sentences são usadas para enfatizar uma parte da frase em particular. Para isso, é precisso reestruturar a frase. Por exemplo, em vez de dizer "I like the food most about Christmas" - o que seria uma frase meio sem sal -, colocamos "What" no começo da frase e modificamos levemente o restante, ficando assim: "What I like most about Christmas is the food."

Cleft sentences podem começar de muitas formas diferentes. Veja alguns exemplos:
  1. "What..." - What I like most about Christmas is the food.
  2. "It is..." - It is the food that I like most about Christmas.
  3. "All..." - All I like about Christmas is the food.
  4. "The thing..." - The thing I like most about Christmas is the food.
  5. "The reason..." - The reason I enjoy Christmas is the food.
  6. "The part..." - The part I enjoy most about Christmas is the food.
