Talking About the Future with Different Levels of Certainty (FUTURO com diferentes GRAUS de CERTEZA)

Talking About the Future with Different Levels of Certainty

By Sergio Viula

Hello, everyone!

Today I want to show you how to use modals and verbs to talk about the future with different levels of certainty.

1. Total Certainty – “Going to”

When you’re sure something will happen, use going to.

It’s going to be delicious because I’m going to use some spices.

(Vai ficar delicioso porque eu vou usar algumas especiarias.)

2. Strong Belief – “Will”

When you believe something will happen, but you’re not completely sure, use will.

I believe it will be delicious.

3. Possibility – “May” and “Might”

Use may or might when something is possible, but you’re not sure at all.

It may taste delicious.

(Pode ter um gosto delicioso.)

It might taste delicious if I add some spices.

(Poderia ficar delicioso se eu adicionasse algumas especiarias.)

👉 Esses dois mostram incerteza, mas might soa um pouco menos provável que may.

4. Probability – “Likely to”

If something seems probable, stronger than may or might, use likely to.

It’s likely to be delicious because pork sausages are usually very tasty.

5. Complete Certainty – “Certain to”

When you’re completely sure, use certain to.

It’s certain to be delicious after being roasted.
